Bran is joined today by Andrzej Bartkowiak, ASC. Born in Łódź, Poland, and trained at the world-renowned Łódź Film School, Andrzej immigrated to the United States in 1972. He quickly built an extraordinary reputation for framing gritty, atmospheric urban narratives and capturing complex human emotions behind the camera lens. This space honors a cinematic pioneer whose visual genius has shaped some of the most memorable blockbusters in modern film history.

As one of the industry's most sought-after cinematographers, Andrzej formed an iconic, decades-long collaboration with legendary director Sidney Lumet, serving as his Director of Photography on 11of his feature films, including The Verdict and Prince of the City. His dramatic camerawork helped define the aesthetic of the 1980s and '90s, working alongside Hollywood's greatest visionaries to frame culturally defining masterpieces like the Oscar-winning Terms of Endearment, the high-octane thriller Speed, and the darkly hypnotic The Devil’s Advocate.

In 2000, Andrzej successfully stepped into the director’s chair, bringing his trademark kinetic energy and stylistic flair to a new wave of action cinema. He made his directorial debut with the smash-hit Romeo Must Die, which masterfully fused martial arts with hip-hop culture. He solidified his reputation as an action powerhouse by directing subsequent genre favorites like Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and the live-action video game adaptations Doom and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
